This might be weird for some (even for me), but apparently salty coffee is now becoming popular in Taiwan. Why? It is because salt can actually reduce bitterness in coffee. Wow, who would have thought huh?

“It gives you three tastes. First, you get the slightly salty taste from the cold cream foam, second, the mixed taste of the salty cream foam and hot coffee, third, the aroma of coffee,” according to the China Daily. After eating dinner, I always have to drink a cup of my Java Chip from Starbucks (just because). But up until lately, I never realized why I always feel full after every cup. The thing is, cold coffee can actually have more calories than your dinner or lunch.

The World Cancer Research Fund found that “most iced coffees contain at least 200 calories,” with others having more than 400 calories, at best. In fact, a venti frappuccino from Starbucks (Dark Berry Mocha Frappe) contains 561 calories.

I’m not that much of a lemonade drinker. But as summertime is now here, I’d rather binge on fruit-based drinks than colas. So in the interest of trying to find the perfect summertime drink, let’s move on to our first recipe. The Cherry Lemonade is a fusion of crushed cherries and your ordinary and basic lemonade syrup.

Ingredients: (makes 2 quarts)

1 1/4 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6 large lemons)
6 cups cold water
1/2 pound cherries, pitted and halved

As summer is fast approaching in the West, some are still stuck in the cold season of rain showers and thunderstorms. At these times, probably the best drink we can have—aside from a hot cup of coffee or cocoa—is a cup of refreshing mint tea.

Mint Tea

Ingredients:

2 long sprigs of Mint (the more you add the more minty it will be)
2 cups of water
Honey
Slice of Lemon

Procedure:

Put the Mint leaves (or the whole sprig) in the water and bring to the boil. The water will turn yellowy green. Then strain into a teacup. Add some honey and a slice of Lemon. Drink it while sitting in your garden, you deserve it!
