I’m not so much a fan of asparagus, even the grilled ones. If I happen to like grilled vegetables, I leaned towards grilling eggplants and tossing them with vinaigrette. But this recipe made me think twice. The tang of the added lemon zest and the thrilling saltiness of the prosciutto turned an otherwise bland recipe into something we can serve to our friends for dinner or lunch.

Asparagus Wrapped In Proscuitto With Lemon

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch of large asparagus, washed, tough ends snapped off
  • 4 ounces thinly sliced prosciutto
  • 1 lemon, zested and cut in half
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes

Procedure:

  1. Wrap each asparagus spear in 1…

In the past, it has always been thought that the healthy eating habits of parents would eventually rub off on their children, but in a recent study—described as “surprising”—it was found out that there’s a weak correlation between parents and their children’s eating habits.

The study, authored by Dr. Youfa Wang, found out that peer pressure and television viewing may have more influence on children’s eating habits than their parent’s. It was also found out in an experiment participated into by 1,061 fathers, 1,230 mothers and 1,700 children that the variation in children’s diet was explained by “factors other than the parent’s diet.”

Parental influence will only have more strength when parents…

Lot of parents think that when their child refuses to eat the food they put in front of them, these kids have an eating disorder. Wrong. Usually, the problem is that they have behavioral problems when it comes to eating. That should not be a surprise to us. With the surplus of junk foods in the market, we don’t need to be Einstein to know where the bad behavior comes from.

Now, try these ten ways to deal with children who are very picky with food:

  1. Focus on making meals and snacks healthy and nutritious, rather than offering processed junk foods.
  2. When introducing new foods (as many as 8 to 15 tasting opportunities…

A lot of women obsessively eat when they are depressed. But there are also those who stop eating altogether when they are facing heavy problems. Both are a distress to your health, and it would not help your diet either way. A lot of people face their problems by binging into their “comfort food,” without realizing that this same “comfort food” actually makes them gain more pounds than necessary. This is called emotional eating.

If you eat for emotional reasons, you might be bringing more calories into your body than in ordinary situations.

Here are three tips to help you get rid of that emotional eating disorder:

Step One: Find the Root – Find…

We are recently led to believe in articles that came out in UK newspapers Timesonline and The Daily Mail that going through a crash diet is healthy and efficient in losing weight.

But often than not, in spite of seeing it work for some Hollywood stars (who are often the proponents of crash diets), the negative effect it would, in the future, slam our body with are in the details.

Dr. Susan Roberts, the researcher behind this study, defines crash diet differently than we understand it.

According to Roberts, there are good and bad crash diets. In actuality, a minimum of 1,200 calories a day (1,800 for men), with adequate protein and low…

For us hardcore coffee lovers, there is nothing more insulting than serving us with a cup right off the supermarket racks. I can’t take anything less than freshly grounded whole coffee beans.

But if you can’t get the freshest coffee beans in your place, try the few pointers that the Atlantic Food Channel gave recently for selecting the freshest coffee beans from your local store.

If coffee is properly packaged in a valve bag (those with small internal buttons and slits), it will probably taste better than bulk beans. Smell the coffee beans through the valve and evaluate whether it smells like fresh ground or whole beans.

If you supermarket, however, is the…

A study made of 3,000 European men found that taking vitamin D helps them be more mentally agile in later years.

The research was conducted by David Lee and his colleagues at the University of Manchester in United Kingdom, and was published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

News wire Reuters reported that the researchers “compared the cognitive performance of more than 3,000 European men aged 40 to 79 and found those with low vitamin D levels did more poorly on a task designed to test mental agility.”

According to Lee, differences in educational levels, physical activity and depression levels were all taken into account. But even after adjusting all the…
