As I’m munching on an ultra soft cheese bread I bought from a local pastry shop 15 minutes away from our house, I realized that this could be very easy to make. Cheese breads should be simple enough for us. With many varieties of cheese out there, it would not be too hard to think of what to put inside (or on top) of a freshly baked pan de sal. This recipe may be complicated for some but once you start getting the hang of things, this might be included in your family’s most favorite bread recipes.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup water

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup butter

1/4 cup liquid honey

1 lg egg ( beaten…

Chain restaurants like Denny’s, Long John Silver’s and Mcdonald’s use hoki–an ugly, bug-eyed fish found in the deep and cold waters of New Zealand–for their fish fillet sandwiches. But a New York Times piece said that this might change in the coming days.

The World Wide Fund has been recently alarmed because of the drops in hoki spawn that might have damaged the ecosystem. The organization is now fighting for a reduction in hoki fishing. Because of WWF advocacy, New Zealand ministry has cut the allowable fishing quota for hoki from 275,000 tons to only 100,000 tons. This means that Mcdo will have to cut down also in its usual consumption…

A study of 4,400 Americans has found that staying fit and active may help expand one’s lifespan. The study is made with participants who are generally healthy, with some having health illnesses like obesity and diabetes. “The researchers found that the 20% with the lowest fitness levels were twice as likely to die within the next nine years, as the 20% with the next-lowest fitness levels.”

The research took place from 1986 to 2006, which assesses the fitness levels with a treadmill test. The study, which was published in Medicine & Science in Sports and Leisure, shows that only 6 percent of the fittest men and women died during the follow-up…

If you’re afraid of flying, better not continue reading this post. You may find yourself asking the pilot if he has good eating habits less he pushes the wrong button while driving the airplane you are riding in.

If you think about it, there’s a big connection really between eating and your emotions. People get cranky all the time when they don’t eat on time. According to Glenda Lindseth, PhD of the University of Dakota in Grand Forks, previous studies have showed that some 80% of flight accidents are caused by pilots who don’t have an healthy eating lifestyle.

I used to think that artificially-flavored foods or drinks may someday cause me some medical ailments that would be incurable because of the amount of preservatives I let myself consume in the past. But experts are now claiming that regular consumption of low-fat foods and low-calorie drinks may actually improve your diet.

In a study published in the International Journal of Obesity, experts said that people who eats modified foods and drinks had diets 5% lower in fat, consuming 11% more low-fat dairy, and 11% more low-fat sauces and dressings.” It then led researchers to recommend people to use more fat-modified foods and artificial sweeteners in their foods.

But since most of…

A cure for obesity may have been found out by researchers at the University of Central Florida. They claim that they have finally identified a new genetic mechanism that can control the body’s fat-building process.

According to researchers, a gene called MCPIP (Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 Induced Protein) is the one controlling the development of fat cells. And yet until now, a different protein by the name of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR gamma) is the universally accepted master controller of fat cell formation.

Lead researcher Pappachan Kolattukudy said that MCPIP is a potential target for drugs, “which would prevent the body from becoming resistant to insulin, and prone to type 2 diabetes.”…

I’m not sure about this but apparently, drinkers are more likely to exercise than those who abstain from drinking. I don’t know about them but being a heavy drinker myself, I never got around to exercising every time I binge on drinking.

So maybe the guilt is the motivating factor to exercise. Hard drinks usually contains a lot of calories so maybe a drinker wants to clean his conscience by exercising to get rid of whatever fats he got from his drinking.

However, this has been slightly proven by a survey done through telephone interviews. Published in the American Journal of Health Promotion, it was found out that “men and women who…

I’m not very fond of beets. There’s something in the looks of it that makes me refuse to eat it every time they are offered to me. But somehow hearing the reports on the beets’ healthy contributions to my body, I decided they might be worth the try after all.

When buying beets, choose those who have round and smooth texture with a firm hold to it. The beetroot should look fresh and leafy (you can use this for other concoctions too). And as beets are popular for the wide variety of colors they are available for, have fun looking around the market and choosing what color of beets you would…
