It has been a widely known fact that fructose, particularly in the form of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), has a very high percentage of increasing your weight and other such illnesses. A YouTube video from Dr. Robert Lustig has, in fact, made a very detailed explanation of the evils of fructose.
But this video has been combated by another video from a fitness and health blog that then raised questions on whether fructose is just highly misunderstood or is there some truth to what Lustig had laid out.
According to Lustig, too much fructose can have negative effects on a man’s diet. It can also have health impacts like making the liver overwork to process the breakdown of glucose. The health expert also said that so much of today’s foods are fructose-based because of its low price.
But for some health bloggers, fructose is not that bad. They said that “the alleged toxicity of fructose is context-dependant.” Also, they said that fructose intakes are not more fattening than other kinds of sugar intakes.
“The studies which do demonstrate adverse effects of fructose consumption are in unreasonably high doses,” they said.
The group for fructose further said that countries with high obesity rate do not post a high percentage of fructose intakes.
The conclusion, I guess, is that we cannot prevent ourselves from eating foods with fructose in it. But the most important thing to remember is that we must do all these in moderation. Take a small amount of fructose in your diet, but not so much that it will post a threat to your health.
