In a survey made by Reader’s Digest of some 16,000 people in 16 different countries, they found out that there are different perspectives when it comes to weight loss.
Here are some of their findings:
1. In Brazil, more than 83 percent are pressured to be thin, followed by India at 68 percent and the United States at 62 percent.
2. Around 50 percent of married women in the United States want their husbands to lose weight while 47 percent of American men want their waves to shed some pounds.
3. Indian men, around 48 percent of them, want their wives to be thinner.
4. Only in Hungary is there a percentage of spouses actually contented with their wives/husbands weight. Around 11 percent Hungarian men and 14 percent Hungarian women wants their spouses to have a little fat on them.
5. Finland has the highest awareness of the dangers of obesity.
6. There are countries that use diet pills more than the other. China leads the pack with 37 percent, Brazil with 30 percent, Russia with 24 percent, Mexico with 23 percent and United States with 19 percent.
7. There are also nationalities that blame their genes for their weight. Seventy percent of Russians perceived that their weight problems are caused by their genes followed by Germans at 61 percent and Indians at 50 percent.
8. France blames the United States for the world’s health problems because of US’ fast-food restaurant chains.
There have been numerous problems regarding obesity and overweight in the past years, especially in the North American region. It was kind of disturbing and interesting to note that many people are aware of the unhealthiness of being overweight, although there is only a small percentage of people who are doing something about it.
