I remember seeing the menu at my previous school and gagging for all the unappetizing food they expect us to eat there—macaroni, porridge and oh yeah… softdrinks for breakfast. What kind of system is that?
Cafeteria lunches are known to be horrible in probably all the corners of all the schools in this world. But the blog, School Lunch Talk, is making a comparative study on how other countries have been feeding their students.
In France, lunch is the time to teach students how to have healthy eating habits. An example of their “healthy eating habit” is a meal of Basque chicken thigh with herbs, red and green bell peppers and olive oil, organic yogurt and an apple. The meals cost only 6.17 euro per student.
Considering that there are moves to “junk” junk foods out of school cafeteria, I don’t think we’ll be seeing healthy items on their menu for some time… even in the future. That’s just the way we roll sometimes. We refuse to take preventive measures rather than search for solutions later on.
