Recently, The New York Times published a report on diet pill supplements than can allegedly reduce hunger, or help you feel satisfied for longer. There are a couply of studies by a certain Dr. Hirsch, a neurologist, psychiatrist and the founder of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago.
Hirsch’s study of 3,193 patients who he let inhale an aromatic scent whenever they feel hungry, found out that each of the participant lost 5 lbs a month. A later study again revealed that because of aromatic scent granules, dieters can lose approximately 5 lbs a month.
Remember that if you are having heavy cold, you also cannot smell things properly? Clearly, there’s a link between our sense of taste and sense of smell. Although the science behind this theory remains uncertain, we can still say that Dr. Hirsch’s study will have contributed to a future breakthrough in diet smell pills.
Also, University of Pennsylvania’s Dr. Richard Doty said that, “There’s been a theory around for a number of years that if you saturate your sensory system that you’ll not be as hungry. There needs to be more research done.”
Since this has not been proven yet, what we can do is to try to experiment with our scent of smell as well. The next time you dine out, try to inhale the aromatic smell of the foods in the restaurant and see if it will somehow affect your appetite for the rest of the night.
