A recent study now suggests that Santa Claus may play a big part on why people become overweight or obese. The study, which was comprised of Australia Monash University, suggests that countries whose children are encouraged to believe in Santa Claus have higher rates of obesity.

Published in the British Medical Journal, the study said that kids may actually be looking at Santa Claus as a role model. “We need to be aware that Santa has an ability to influence people, and especially children, towards unhealthy behavior,” the study stated.

The study suggests numerous incredulous solutions to Santa’s health including jogging instead of using his sleigh. I don’t even know if we…

The common thinking in most people is that depressed women have a more difficult time losing weight than others. A recent study, however, shows that there is no big difference between depressed women and their non-depressed counterparts when it comes to losing weight.

The study is conducted by Evette Ludman, PhD. It included 190 female Group Health patients, aged 40 to 65, with a body mass index of 30 or more—65 with major depressive order and 125 without.

It found out that women have lost weight at 6 months and 12 months with no significant difference between the two groups. According to Ludman, “We expected women with major depression to lose less…

There are tons of ways to exercise, but did you know that you can actually stretch some muscles and exercise while shopping? Here’s how:

1. Park farther away, so you would have to walk to get inside the mall.
2. Grab a healthy sandwich and a bottle of water instead of binging on Chinese food. That will save you some added 700 calories.
3. Take the stairs instead of the escalators or elevators.
4. Carry all your bags in your hand rather than on your shoulders. Walk around the mall to exercise your arm muscles.
5. Promise yourself that for every item you buy, you would at least give 25 sit-ups and push-ups once you…

Something from the Office of the Surgeon General made me think. It said that, “The primary concern of overweight and obesity is one of health and not appearance.” There I was thinking that the real reason why women and men want to lose weight is because they want to look good, at least physically.

But despite this statement from the Surgeon General, I still believe that people are more inclined to diet because they want to look good and not because they are worried about their health. This becomes increasingly evident when dieters take on diet regimens that would make them lose weight fast, but also has negative effects on their…

There are several professions that require a certain weight. And that’s understandable considering that jobs in the law enforcement, lifeguarding and firefighters, requires you to be physically fit.

But recently, the Lincoln University in Pennsylvania decided that it will not allow fat students to graduate until they have passed and completed a fitness course. Students enrolled in Lincoln University must have their BMIs taken during the four years they attended the college. If they score 30 or above—obesity mark—students will be required to take a fitness course three hours each week.

If a student fails to complete the course, he/she will not be allowed to graduate.

This, of course, sparked anger in some…

Middle-aged people who overdo exercises may risk having arthritis or knee problems, a new study said. In an experiment of people aged 45 to 55, which was presented to the Radiological Society of North America by Dr. Christoph Stehling, those who exercised the most are found out to be prone to knee damage.

Although knee problems and joint pains are always associated with being overweight, all the participants in the study are of normal and healthy weights. Dr. Stehling then recommended that all middle-aged people exercise with just the right amount of intensity. He stressed though that “high-impact, weight-bearing physical activity, such as running and jumping, may be worse for cartilage…

This is actually a pretty common perception about movie theater foods—that they are fattening and that they packed the much-dreaded calories.

A study of the Center for Science for Public Interest also proved this claim by some researchers and scientists. According to the findings, a typical value combo of a medium popcorn and soda contains as many calories and grams of saturated fat as three Quarter Pounders slathered with 12 pats of butter.

So see? Even something as airy as popcorns know that movie theater foods are actually more deadly than the usual calorie-laden snacks. Movie theater foods actually contain outrageously high amount of fat and calories. In fact, even the nutritional…

For many people, pizza is the ultimate comfort food. But for dieters, it is the evil of every known diet program in the world. Lately though, experts are seemingly finding something good to do with pizza. In fact, pizza shop owner Matt McClellan has just invented the Pizza Diet.

There is also a significant drop in his body…

I know Thanksgiving should be fun. But what can we do if we start gaining pounds even before the Christmas season officially begins? The answer: try these simple workouts to relieve your accumulated Thanksgiving fats.

First, start with a general warm up for about three to five minutes. You can choose between biking, treadmill or jump rope to achieve that warm up. Then, perform these three following exercises as a circuit. Make sure you rest for 60 to 90 seconds between each set. Do the three sets simultaneously for three times.
