I usually don’t like eating Mexican foods. It’s just too bland for my taste buds except maybe for the chili salsa. However, this dish made me think otherwise. The combination of the flautas with the ground beef and cheddar cheese is astronomically the best Mexican food I’ve had in years.

Here’s a recipe from Martha Stewart.

Ingredients: (serves 3)

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

2 garlic cloves, sliced

3/4 cup hulled pumpkin seeds

1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

2 tablespoons lime juice

salt and pepper

8 corn tortillas

1 1/2 cups grated Monterey Jack cheese

1/4 cup peanut oil

Salsa

Procedure:

- Place a skillet over medium heat. Soften the tortillas on the skillet for a few second each side. Set aside. Pour 2 tablespoons…

I have lots of time on my hands now, so I decided to look for a rather complicated recipe that I can prepare for my family tonight. This dish is not exactly what you would call complicated, but it do combine many layers of preparations and cooking, so I think that this would be just right for a hearty meal later on.

This recipe is from Blake Royer who founded The Paupered Chef.

Ingredients: (serves 2)

2 chicken legs and thighs, skin-on and bone-in

Salt and pepper

1 tablespoon neutral oil, such as canola

Most comfort foods include chicken pot pie, chicken soup or some chunky chowder; but for me, there’s something about garlic soup that calms me after a grueling day at work.

The first time I saw this recipe, I immediately started closing the book since I decided I can’t possibly have the time and energy to concoct this dessert. And yet, I can’t help but challenge myself with this throwback to a key lime pie dessert.

It’s summer season in this part of the globe. And as I sweltered under the heat of the sun, I also crave for something so frivolous as a strawberry shake. This recipe is basically like a throwback to the 60’s where you can see your friends hang out in side street cafes sipping fruit shakes instead of a Starbucks coffee.

This recipe is from AllRecipes.com.

(serves one)

4 cups strawberries, hulled

2 cups ice cubes

2 cups milk

4 cups strawberry ice cream

2 teaspoons white sugar

Procedure:

In a blender combine strawberries, ice, milk, ice cream and sugar. Blend until smooth.

I am starting to believe that people of yesteryears have better shot of living a longer and healthier…

Also called the jiu cai, these Chinese Chives are more recognizable than herbs. These chives have a garlicky flavor and juicy, crisp texture that are perfect for stir-fried. You can also add them to dumplings.

There is also one other variety of the Chinese chives—called the Chinese yellow chives. These are chives that grow under cover without exposure to sunlight, which causes the yellow pigment. Then, there are also the flowering chives, which are named for their hollow, light green stems and yellow buds. The stalks are light and crisp though these kinds of chives have considerably less garlicky flavor than the green and yellow varieties.

You can find Chinese chives in…

If you want something simple but decadent for lunch or dinner, then this recipe will shock you. The combination of the pricey lobster meat with an ordinary hotdog bun will make you think this is just another sandwich. But remember that lobster meat is the classiest seafood meat out there. The taste is divine. Mixed with homemade mayonnaise, this dish is simply something all your guests would crave long after the party has ended.

This recipe is from Edible: A Celebration of Local Foods by Tracey Ryder.
