Something from the Office of the Surgeon General made me think. It said that, “The primary concern of overweight and obesity is one of health and not appearance.” There I was thinking that the real reason why women and men want to lose weight is because they want to look good, at least physically.

But despite this statement from the Surgeon General, I still believe that people are more inclined to diet because they want to look good and not because they are worried about their health. This becomes increasingly evident when dieters take on diet regimens that would make them lose weight fast, but also has negative effects on their…

There are several professions that require a certain weight. And that’s understandable considering that jobs in the law enforcement, lifeguarding and firefighters, requires you to be physically fit.

But recently, the Lincoln University in Pennsylvania decided that it will not allow fat students to graduate until they have passed and completed a fitness course. Students enrolled in Lincoln University must have their BMIs taken during the four years they attended the college. If they score 30 or above—obesity mark—students will be required to take a fitness course three hours each week.

If a student fails to complete the course, he/she will not be allowed to graduate.

This, of course, sparked anger in some…

Like with many things, veggie sandwiches (the healthy ones) are always doomed to fail. The problem is sandwich makers would usually pack the bread with so much green, leafy vegetables that the eater would gag at the first sight of it. A good veggie sandwich lies on balance, which is what exactly this sandwich recipe will be teaching us.

Here’s something from YumSugar.

Middle-aged people who overdo exercises may risk having arthritis or knee problems, a new study said. In an experiment of people aged 45 to 55, which was presented to the Radiological Society of North America by Dr. Christoph Stehling, those who exercised the most are found out to be prone to knee damage.

Although knee problems and joint pains are always associated with being overweight, all the participants in the study are of normal and healthy weights. Dr. Stehling then recommended that all middle-aged people exercise with just the right amount of intensity. He stressed though that “high-impact, weight-bearing physical activity, such as running and jumping, may be worse for cartilage…

A new study found out that a low-carb diet may have an effect on a person’s mood. In fact, those of us who are into these kinds of diet may be grumpier than ordinary people.

In an experiment, researchers found out that those who are under the low-fat diet maintained their good disposition (probably from losing fat) while those under the low-carb diet “turned towards mero negative baseline levels.”

“This outcome suggests that some aspects of the low-carbohydrate diet may have had detrimental effects on mood that, over the term of one year, negated any positive effects of weight loss,” the authors of the study said.

The reason why there could be an…

Some 99 percent of 5000 people who lost at least 30 pounds did one thing that worked above all diet regimes—count calories.

This is also consistent with the findings of the National Weight Control. According to the study, these are what dieters should do:

* Restrict intake of certain high-calorie foods
* Practice portion control
* Exercise regularly—equivalent of one hour brisk walk
* Ate breakfast regularly—usually cereal and milk
* Weigh regularly

To maintain losing weight, you should take a look back at these delightful tips whenever you feel you’re breaking away from your diet routine. Remember that one step forward in your diet should not equate to eating that extra chocolate bar.
